This term was popularized by Abraham Maslow, a U.S. psychologist. It’s not a word that comes up often in everyday conversation, though maybe it should because it’s meaning sure runs deep. Here’s an online dictionary definition:
the achievement of one's full potential through creativity, independence, spontaneity, and a grasp of the real world. [i]
I also like what the British Dictionary says:
the process of establishing oneself as a whole person, able to develop one's abilities and to understand oneself [ii]
If life is a river, then self-actualization is the current -- without which the river would be something far different. My life has purpose and every breathing soul has value. Contentment comes when one is aware of both of these facts. Tammy’s Library is built on this foundation; my tagline says it all: Illumination for the Journey. I invite you to explore my collection of resources, locate a section which intrigues you and plunge in.
Here is a scale on which you can rate yourself to see just where you are in relation to personal development, self-awareness and self-improvement.
If you prefer, watch an 18 minute video by Leo Gura detailing what self-actualized people are like. Mr. Gura’s website also offers a great tool for selecting just the right concept you wish to begin with.
I encourage you to get on Instagram and sign up to follow some inspirational users or look up relevant hashtags so you will be equipped with instant motivation in moments where you feel deflated or simply exhausted.
